Community Conversation: Poverty Issues & Possibilities
October 27, 2016 @ 6:30 pm - 9:00 pm
Here’s what we’ve accomplished so far:
Our second session of the Eau Claire County Poverty Summit was a success! We had 145 attendees and 48 new participants, and new members are always encouraged to come – no matter how far along the process is. The facilitators drove home the concept of self-interest, highlighting the fact that it is neither selfishness nor selflessness, but rather a realization of what matters to you and deciding to do something about it. Binders were distributed that contained “toolkits” that will be vital to our action teams as we look to the future when we start to implement our ideas. During this meeting, participants worked on skill-building and collaborated with each other to fine tune their one to one meeting skills and practice creating strategic relationships. Our goal for the night was to find out what made our fellow Summit members tick and uncover the motivations and passions that brought us all together in the first place!
Positive change continues at our next meeting on November 10th!
Eau Claire community members will be starting an 18 month initiative to address concerns and possibilities in our area.
Perhaps you have a unique perspective or a personal experience that you can share. Maybe you represent a service provider or are currently in a situation with a perspective that can touch and reach people.
Let’s make Eau Claire better together!
People from all kinds of backgrounds and experience are asked to participate and share their thoughts on income insecurities and poverty. This will be a safe, respectful and welcoming community conversation.
Transportation assistance and childcare is available.
